Physical Education
Throughout life it is crucial to stay physically active and learn how to maintain and stay in excellent physical shape, as well as educate and promote physical activity. As a Physical Educator I believe that I will be able to ignite a connection with students and be able to make them want to participate in various activities. I will do this through teaching lifetime activities, social cooperation, and teaching students what they need to know. We are at a time where Physical Education is desperately needed, as obesity is on the rise. It is important to teach students how to live a long and healthy lifestyle. I will guide students with my intelligence and help them become physically educated.
A quality physical educator is able to teach students how to develop self confidence in framing movement, sport, and fitness tasks as well as teaching students to have a self understanding. They will also encourage students to set reachable goals and to use personal decision making as well. As a Physical Educator I will encourage students to think, reflect on their performance, and gradually develop their own plan to reach their goals. By offering students plenty of time practicing skills in the class rooms and encouraging outside activities, this a great way to keep students active and involved in the curriculum. Students need role models and I know I can demonstrate the proper physical education skills that students need to see and would make them want to be more active outside of school. Students need a curriculum that will help them become more educated on health and fitness related activities. They also need to be taught throughout their physical education classes the importance of staying active. I trust my curriculum will educate students to eat healthier and exercise more frequently to maintain a healthy body composition.
There is not one public school setting that has all of the same learning style preferences. Students need many different styles of learning in order to see what their strengths and weaknesses are. As a Physical Educator, it is my goal to incorporate visual aids, demonstrations, and auditory approaches to give students explanations and ways to perform such skills. I will also give corrective and positive feedback to all of my students encouraging them to do their best and not to settle for anything less. The learning process of how we learn becomes as important as what we learn. Knowing that there is the rationale of knowledge explosion has made it nearly impossible for the school curriculum to cover all important product knowledge; consequently, by teaching students skills for continuing learning are an important key to success. With a growing diversity in population, in Physical Education it is critical that we teach inclusiveness in the classroom. Students need to know that people in our school are family and we respect everyone the way we would want to be treated. In my classroom I will promote acceptance for everyone as no one is safe from an unhealthy lifestyle. We are all entitled the same equal opportunity for respect. Allowing for students to learn more about other cultures will help students become more educated and help them learn about the importance of acceptance and that we are all humans and want to be loved for who we are.
Assessment of learning is the most important parts of the jobs teachers have. The Standards in Physical Education have been overlooked but need to influence what behaviors and skills are being focus of attention. I believe that students should be assessed within the process of learning. Students should be accountable for the information that they learn in Physical Education and by assessing what they have learned, this will show teachers and parents how well their student is doing in class. I also know that not every student will be the most athletic, they might not be the fastest, strongest, or tallest and by assessing students through self actualization this will stress self understanding and growth as an individual. It has a lasting impact on a child and on a teacher to watch students grow and progress at various skills. I believe it is only fair to base students on their own personal growth in sport, framing movement, and fitness tasks.
I believe that one of the most important values that I can give to my students is to take in all the knowledge that you possibly can and to encourage students to reach their fullest potential at whatever it is they do. Students need positive role models and I believe that I can make Physical Education fun and enjoyable for all students. My goal as a Physical Educator is to teach students through Self Actualization and Physical Literacy. This is what I believe it will take to encourage students and make them want to participate through the physical.
Coaching
The quest for excellence with a school’s program starts and ends with the quality of coaches. I will demonstrate my role as a coach through principles of kindness, respect, loyalty, patience, and commitment to my organization. As a coach I recognize the importance of not only developing athletes, but developing young adults with character. It is my desire to not only develop my athletes skills that pertain to their respective sports, but to stress proficiency and lessons that enable my athletes to develop into productive, responsible, and mature members of society. It is important as a coach that I work my hardest to allow every athlete the opportunity to succeed. As a coach I will emphasize teamwork over individual accolades, because I have recognized that you can achieve more by creating a perpetual system of cohesiveness. I will integrate leadership into my players through my knowledge. I will also coach them to learn how to cooperate with each other, and teach them the values of sportsmanship and that we win and lose together.
